ACS Chemistry - Knowing the Test Descriptions and Topics
ACS Chemistry - Knowing the Test Descriptions and TopicsAs a certified specialist in acs chemistry, I have seen how important APSA (American Chemistry Society) can be when choosing and preparing for an APSA chemistry exam. Having a solid grasp of all the material on your exam is of the utmost importance. You can get better preparation by understanding what each topic or question is about and how to prepare for it.Exam topics are broken down into two categories, general and specific. General topics cover almost everything to do with chemistry. General topics are mainly for students taking an APSA chemistry exam. A section on this type of test includes topics like acids, bases, atoms, compounds, elements, elimination, symbol, stoichiometry, thermodynamics, and atomic theory. Specific topics include introduction to science, alkanes, alkaline earths, chemical stability, organic reactions, new chemical species, organic compounds, and organic reactions.Specific tests focus on the basics of the material. Typically, in these types of tests, you will answer four or five questions concerning the different chemical reactions that you will encounter during the exam. Knowing the chemical reaction concepts involved in each question helps you understand what is being asked. In fact, knowing how each test is structured and the basic chemistry concepts involved can be useful when looking for a specific type of information. When preparing for these types of exams, you will need to think about the different aspects of each of the different sections that are included in the exam questions. For example, if a specific test includes questions about the human body, then you need to know if there are small molecules, gases, solids, and liquids. What are the constituents of a chemical compound? In addition, you should consider preparing for the right type of test that suits your strengths. For example, if you are taking an APSA chemistry exam to prepare for graduate school, then you willn eed to know about electrolysis, alcohols, solvents, and gases. You also need to find out if there are multiple choice and essay tests, and if there are any timed tests. Generally, timed tests are used to test your overall reading speed and comprehension. The topics in most timed tests are not the same as the topics in the general test. Therefore, you will need to study for a timed test that includes a mix of general and specific test topics.I will briefly mention some examples of topics to review when you are studying for an ACS chemistry exam. Common topics that include acid forming and neutralizing reactions, alkylation reactions, oxidation reactions, protonation reactions, carbonylation reactions, and the reactions of water and carbocations. Once you are familiar with these topics, you will need to focus on the sections for each of these concepts. It is important to always remember that you must study and prepare for the exam. Never take for granted the knowledge that you need to p ass. You never know when you will be asked to go on a test!
